About Miami-Dade

Teach For America – Miami-Dade is proud to be one partner in the work to provide every student in Miami the opportunity to achieve their full potential. We first partnered with Miami Dade County public schools in 2003, responding to community members across Miami who came together to demand equal access to excellent education for every student. Today 165 corps members are teaching in Miami-Dade’s highest need schools, reaching almost 20,000 students. More than 500 local alumni are working across a range of fields in our city to address the root causes of educational inequity. Led by a Miami native and graduate of Miami Dade County Public Schools, Samantha Hoare, the regional staff and corps is a diverse mix of other long-time Miami residents and those who recently moved here, but all passionately call Miami their home. Miami is an incredible community full of families who feel a great responsibility to the work and investment that is necessary to make educational equity possible. It is this commitment to our city’s and our children’s future that binds us as one community and transcends the socio-economic differences across our neighborhoods.

Over the past thirteen years, we’ve seen thousands of students experience measurable academic growth; hundreds of new, committed educators have made Miami their home; and school leaders have told us they would like to work with even more Teach For America educators. We are proud of these accomplishments and we know we have more work to do as we partner with our district to improve outcomes for every student.
